We are Sustainable Houston (SH) and we are excited about local and independent businesses that strive to make a socially and environmentally positive impact in the community! We are convinced that businesses can be socially and environmentally responsible and at the same time profitable.

Mission

Our mission is to build the Houston economy in a socially and economically just and environmentally sustainable manner by educating, guiding and nurturing local, independent businesses in sustainable business development. We track and measure progress in four key areas of sustainability:

  • Community Sustainability

  • Environmental Sustainability
We accomplish our mission by:

  • Supporting the growth and development of locally owned and independently-operated businesses in the Greater Houston Area

  • Providing opportunities for business owners to collaborate wherever possible and share best practices that help generate strong profits while caring for people and the planet

  • Providing coaching, educational resources, forums and information for businesses to achieve solid, manageable growth

  • Promoting public policies that strengthen independent, local businesses and help level the economic playing field

  • Supporting a diverse community of leaders who can bring about positive social change through business

  • Giving marketing support to businesses in our network through ongoing marketing campaigns that urge Houston area citizens to support these companiess
